The news of Ustad Zakir Hussain's passing feels like a deep void in the world of music, and yet, his legacy resonates so powerfully that it’s hard to believe he’s no longer among us. My own journey in music began because of his mesmerizing tabla compositions. I still remember the times when my father used to take me to all of the concerts where he played. I remember listening to the recorded cassettes with Pt Hariprasad ji, Pt Shivkumar sharma, Hazir by Hariharan ji etc. As a child, I was captivated by the way his hands danced on the tabla, weaving rhythms that felt both universal and deeply personal. It was his music that opened my eyes to the beauty of percussion and sparked my lifelong love for it.

He didn’t just play the tabla—he elevated it to a global stage. Through his unparalleled artistry, he taught the world about the depth, intricacy, and soul of Indian classical music. His collaborations bridged cultures, genres, and generations, making tabla an instrument of universal language.

Beyond his extraordinary musicianship, what struck me most was his humility. For him, music was always greater than the musician. He was a servant to the art, reminding us that the pursuit of excellence and the spirit of learning never end.

If Ustad Zakir Hussain were here, I believe he’d urge us to continue creating, to remain humble, and to honor the music by giving it our best. As long as we play, learn, and carry forward his ethos, he will live on through our melodies and rhythms.

We will remember him forever—not only for his genius but for the way he inspired countless musicians to keep the music alive. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his music continue to guide us. 🙏🏼

A late post about celebrating the memorial day of Rabindranath Tagore who has inspired millions through his work in poetry, music, literature, philosophy etc. I was glad to be a part of the statue inauguration of Rabindranath Tagore in valladolid organized by @casaindiavll and @eoimadrid. It was so beautiful to give a workshop on music from India to the kids and having a concert after with the dra @rajnandini.official and @tatianardlfuente on cello.

What is it about going home?
It is about very tiny bits of life collected together of how you evolved. It is about the time when you used to go to the shops close by to buy things. Just being at your desk where you prepared for your board exams a couple of years back. It is about the love from your parents and also to get scolded.Taking a break, just going in the kitchen and looking outside at the same coconut tree from the window while drinking water. Those afternoons where you spent time listening to your favourite music.Going on a trip with family and friends, meeting for chai and misal......

This can go on but it is important to live those moments again. To take the best and leave the rest.
